The Williamsport Bureau of Police Criminal Investigations Unit is tasked with many different responsibilities, first and foremost the investigation of Major Crimes. 

This unit will take the lead with all major cases such as homicides, aggravated assault involving shootings / stabbings as well as all felony level cases such as burglaries and major thefts.  The unit will also investigate some misdemeanor cases with special circumstances.

 

The unit has one Agent who is specifically trained to handle all Criminal Investigations involving sexual assaults and child related offenses.  He also has the responsibility for maintaining criminal intelligence records, tracking and maintaining files pertaining to registered sex offenders living within the City of Williamsport.  Currently Agent Peacock handles criminal cases as well as all arson investigations. and conducting background investigation on polie applicants.

 

The unit is also tasked with conducting background investigations on all police applicants as well as assisting other agencies as requested.
